Bluefield recently completed the development of life cycle strategies and detailed PM programs for the First Quantum Minerals (FQM) Sentinel Project in Zambia. The Sentinel project will move in excess of 150 million tonnes of material and produce up to 300,000 tonnes of copper when in full production. Being prepared with their equipment asset management plans is a key requirement for ramp up to full production on schedule.
Bluefield was contracted to assist FQM in the early stage operational readiness for the mine and to develop the equipment strategies. The fleet compromised 7495 electric rope shovels, PC5500 hydraulic shovels, Komatsu 860 and 960 trucks as well as a full range of Komatsu ancillary fleet. Now that the first of the fleets are commissioned management at Sentinel said;
“Having the equipment maintenance strategies documented before the equipment arrived allowed them to focus on preparing to execute effective and quality maintenance. Equipment arriving and going to work happens very quickly and by having the PM sheets ready and the long term component strategy ready to go meant that they could get onto operations straight away. Also there are always things that can be improved, having the base line strategy ready means we can focus straight away on continuous improvement and not have to begin developing from scratch.”
